An absolute classic for diners and restaurants, this creamy pink 2-ingredient strawberry milkshake is guaranteed to make anyone smile. Make your own at home with vanilla ice cream & fresh strawberries PLUS a version with strawberry jam, and another using strawberry ice cream!

Pink milkshake with a whipped cream topping, strawberry, and red and white striped straw.

🌟 Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Delicious strawberry flavor – The sweet and fruity flavor of strawberries in this milkshake is to die for. It’s like a tiny drop of summer heaven. Just like this strawberry basil shrub and strawberry cream puffs.
  • 3 options to make it – The classic version of this recipe contains ice cream and fresh strawberries, but not everyone has fresh strawberries around. That’s why I make a version with strawberry jam, another with frozen strawberries, and even a version with strawberry ice cream!
  • Smooth, creamy texture – The strawberries and the ice cream blend together to create the perfect thick milkshake texture. If you love this diner-style milkshake, also try this blackberry milkshake.
  • Pretty pink color – This milkshake is just beautiful! It’s great for parties or themed birthdays as a dessert option.

🧾 Ingredients in this recipe

A carton of vanilla ice cream next to milk in a measuring cup on top of a plastic container with fresh strawberries.
  • Fresh strawberries or strawberry jam – You can substitute strawberries for strawberry jam in this recipe, but the milkshake will be sweeter if you use strawberry jam. This is because jam already has a good amount of sugar in it. Frozen strawberries also work, but you will need to use some milk or non-dairy milk to get it blended.
  • Vanilla Ice cream – Any vanilla ice cream that’s your favorite or that you have on hand will work perfectly.

Note: If using strawberry ice cream, all you need is the ice cream and a dash of milk or non-dairy milk.

👩‍🍳 How to Make This Recipe

This recipe works best using an immersion blender if making just one and a high-speed blender if making more than one.

🍓 Pro Tip

If using strawberry ice cream, skip the puree, add a splash of milk, and blend!

Strawberry puree in a clear container with an immersion blender above it.
  • Add your fresh chopped strawberries to a blender and pulse until they form a puree.
  • If using frozen strawberries, you’ll need to add a splash of milk or non-dairy milk.

  • Add the vanilla ice cream and blend until you reach a milkshake consistency. Do not over-blend or it will get runny.

Note on scoopability

If the ice cream is not scoopable straight out of the freezer, let it soften slightly before attempting to blend it in. If the ice cream is super soft, you can get away with mixing the strawberry puree into the ice cream with a spoon instead of having to blend it.

Optional: top your milkshake with whipped cream and some with freeze-dried strawberries for extra pizzazz. White chocolate shavings are also amazing with this!
